| You have to hand it to Netflix. Their business model for dominating the internet via gaming consoles and now smartphones is stellar. Video rental stores are quickly going bye-bye, and Netflix definitely stepped up to the plate.
This fall 20th century fox will become the first major studio to offer movie downloads to Android-based smartphones and tablet mini computers.On Oct 12th X-Men: First Class, buyers will be able be able to download a digital copy compatible to the Android platform on their computer. Online Movie Giant has just announced that it will soon be offering streaming movies from the website. For a basic monthly subscription rate starting at $4.99, Netflix customers go online to rent DVDs, which are delivered via first-class mail, complete with postage-paid return envelopes. | Net Neutrality and ISP Download Caps |
| The big deal with ISPs seems to be the whole net neutrality issue. On one hand does it seem fair that every ISP should open up and make available an entire pipeline each time a new movie download service starts up? Even the most liberal of users would have to agree that there has to be a middle ground. With my ISP, they limit downloads to a generous 25Gigs per month. Now that being said, there are other mor expensive plans that I could subscribe to which would allow me to download upwards of 50 Gigs and at the same time increase my download speeds ( but not uploads) I find this to be a completely fair trade off |
| Xbox and Sony's PSP Gaming System Movie Downloading Service |
Well it seems that both the Xbox and PSP have both recently announced it's partnership with their select movie download providers. Netflix has been granted an exclusive partnership with Microsoft and its' Xbox console system. As long as the user has both a Xbox Live and a Netflix account, they will be able to download the movies to the Xbox hard drive for immediate viewing. Television shows will also be available . With other features such as LiveParty which lets users share movies at no extra cost, this one could well lead the way in the next generation of downloading movies off of the internet. |

| Motorola will soon be launching a movie download service in Europe. It's already being tested out in the UK. The download service will have movies for around $12 to $18 each, and will have to be sideloaded-first you you download the movie onto your computer and then transfer it to your phone. No over-the-air magic, in other words. So far, Paramount is the only major studio to have signed up for the service. |

| The six major movie studios won their copyright infringement case against file-sharing site TorrentSpy. Operator Valence Media has been fined $111 million, or $30,000 per violation, for an estimted 3,700 illegal movie and TV-show downloads. While the MPAA has praised the significance of the handed down Monday in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, its only value may be symbolic. TorrentSpy.com, shut down in March, and Valence has sought bankruptcy protection |

Earlier on this week, C. Sherman of RIAA was discussing the incredulous possibility of filtering content in your home through the use of anti-virus software. In defense of the uproar that was created by this knucklehead , Sherman is now saying that he wasn't really proposing that this should be done but was “simply musing” on an abstract concept that could theoretically be put into place. Sure pal, gimme a break. Politicians in Sweden are pondering ways to make all file-sharing legal. This is exemplified by the recent actions of the Swedish Green Party which has long supported allowing file-sharing. They have recently made a new push in these efforts with the argument that file-sharing is not a form of theft and can actually be a key force in democracy today. |

| Sony's Newest PS3 to Allow Downloads |
NEW YORK (AP) — The next update of Sony 's PlayStation 3 console, slated late this month, will include features that let users download games, video and ring tones. Sony said Thursday the update will add Blu-ray Disc Profile 2.0, to the PS3. It will also let users copy photos and music playlists on to their handheld PlayStation Portable, use the PSP as a remote control for playing music on the PS3 and stream linked video files from the Web.This will make the PS3 the first Blu-ray player with access to Internet content and downloads. Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., which owns the Panasonic brand, also plans to ship a BD-Live player this spring.With the updates, Sony wants to build the gaming console's status as an entertainment hub. The downloadable content will range from bonus movie scenes and trailers to "interactive movie-based games." "With Blu-ray established as the high-definition optical disc standard, more consumers are ready to jump in and take advantage of everything the format offers," said Scott A. Steinberg, vice president of product marketing, in a statement.Sony is planning to release a stand-alone Blu-ray player this summer that will feature an Ethernet port to download bonus materials. |
